Together we remember

Welcome back. This week has been the launch of our new topic – WW1.

Thank you so much for all the precious items and memories that have already been shared in class. It seems that the children have many heroic relatives – gone but not forgotten. So far Sophie, William and Lacey have told their own families’ WW1 stories. The children have been fascinated and are learning so much about why we remember.

As for the outstanding homework projects – wow! We have been astounded by the care and effort that has gone into them. So much so that on Friday Eagle and Hawk class created an exhibition, to share these amazing projects with the school. All classes visited and the children were there to explain what they had brought in. A great opportunity for us all to teach and learn together. Below are some of the highlights, please check

out Eagle class blog too.

End of Term 1

What a successful and busy term. The children have settled well into the new Key Stage and we’re really looking forward to learning about WW1 after the break. If anyone has any items or is an expert on this topic please let us know.

It was lovely to meet  so many parents at parents’ evening.

Also, please make sure that the children have their PE kits in for Monday The 5th as we are having a Badminton taster session that morning.

Have a lovely week.

Ancient Greek food tasting.

This week we developed our food technology skills by chopping and preparing a Greek salad. The whole classroom smelt yummy afterwards, but the onions did make the eyes sting a little bit! All the children loved chopping and no fingers were lost. However, the best part was in the tasting. So many children were surprised that they actually liked the feta and olives.

Sponsored Bike Ride

Well done to all our fantastic cyclists for taking part in our sponsored bike ride. Most of them completed over 5 miles of cycling. We are proud of you! If you have any outstanding sponsor money please hand it in and then we can order the shiny new bike shed!

A Greek Play In a Day

Yesterday all the children participated in a fantastic drama day. The theatre company Splatz arrived to work their drama magic, and together the children from Y3/4 created a detailed historical play. It was wonderful to see them shine on our small stage. They had to make props and learn lines and listen to stage directions. They were fabulous! The audience loved every minute and so did we all.

Can you guess who’s behind the masks?

Harvest and Thanksgiving

As you are aware it will be our Harvest Festival at the church on Friday 26th of October. The themes this year is harvest around the world and we have been given the countries of America and Canada.  In preparation for this, we had a special Harvest Day on Wednesday. The children learnt about the first Thanksgiving in America and the traditions that come from that event. We did some special practical maths where we estimated the sizes of pumpkins. But the real treat was our home made pumpkin pie, as the children have probably told you it was “dee -lish!”

We also thought about why harvest is celebrated still and thought about many things that we are thankful for at this time of the year.

Sponsored Cycle Ride

Don’t forget that on the 23rd October there is a sponsored bike ride to raise funds for a brand new bike shelter. You should have received a parent mail with the details already. Children need to be confident at cycling and have their own bike for the day- with helmets. If you have any questions please call into class. It’s a fun event and  it’s for a fantastic cause, that will benefit all the children.

Autumn …

101_6444

This week the air has definitely turned cooler. Beautiful autumn colours are appearing and conkers are being gathered. Please remember to send your child with a coat and we still do outdoor PE so trainers, joggers and hoodies are necessary for our Monday afternoons.

This week was the first week with the whole class in so here we are in all our glory! I think you’ll agree they are a wonderful group of individuals. They have settled so well into KS2.

Also this week we have continued to delve into Ancient Greece. The children have created some fantastic art pieces. We are half way through the collages of the Parthenon. Watch out next week to see the final masterpieces!

Fantastic firework competition

101_6425Hawk Class were chosen to be the faces that launch the Bath Rotary Club firework poster competition. We had  a special visit from the Rotary Club and the sponsors of this years display at the Rec, Bath Building Society.

The children were inspired to create some outstanding competition entries. Fingers crossed there’s a winner in the class.  They were all winners in our eyes!
